Intel core i5 to i7

Solution
The i7 6700 is supposed on your motherboard. You shouldn't need a bios update.

You shouldn't need to reinstall windows 10, though you might have to go into msconfig -> boot -> advanced to increase the cores from 4 to 8.

It is compatible but I would need a good reason to make that upgrade. What is frustrating you about having an i5 6400 that makes you want to get an i7? Is it the slower base core frequency or do you need hyperthreading?

An i5 6600 has clock speed of 3.3ghz with turbo to 3.9ghz. An i7 6700 has clock speed 3.4ghz with turbo to 4ghz. If you aren't using the hyperthreading then there is very little difference between these two apart from a big £70 price difference.
