So I am up grading my Dell Latitude e6400 and it uses 4gb ddr 2 150gb ssd and Core 2 Duo P8600. Should I get the Intel Pentium T4500 or the Core 2 Quad Q9100 CPU and will I be able to.(List of the socket my cpu runs on http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/CPUs/Intel/Core_2_Duo_Mobile/P8600_(Socket_P).html)

Solution
Thing to really look at it is TDP, if it's substantially higher, you might have issues. Get the fastest chip that has a similar, or maybe +10 watts or so higher, is probably safe. Laptop cooling is so bad that you don't have much margin.

If it burned out before, chances are the next one will burn out too, and is because of a lack of heat dissipation, and that it is overheating. The Core 2 quad is better, but it does run hot, and laptops are not designed to have processor upgrades. Why do you feel the need to upgrade?

Not true, I upgraded my old Compaq C700 from a lowly pentium to a core 2. Don't remember the exact models off hand. My Asus laptop can be upgraded from its i5 2430m to an i7-2630qm.

anyone who upgraded a CPU in the laptop must have great luck because chances are the BIOS would only support a handful of CPU's plus what everyone else has been mentioning in here is increased heat. not to mention battery life would be affected to. although if you need to replace the CPU your laptop is probably too old to worry about battery life anyway
