Hi all,

I have been reading through this website long time ago and decided to join to take your advise.

I am not a computers tech or specialist, to make long story shorter, I am going to buy within this week my next super computer that I am willing to spend 6000$ on it with possibility of increasing the budget. I live in ON, Canada.

To start off with, there are two CPUs I am considering to buy one of them, first is Intel Core I7-5960x and the other one is Intel Xeon e5 2667 v4.

I attached the two specifications for the two CPUs.

Xeon

Intel I7
http://ark.intel.com/products/82930/Intel-Core-i7-5960X-Processor-Extreme-Edition-20M-Cache-up-to-3_50-GHz

When I compared these two together, I found that the Xeon e5 2667 is way more powerful in the MAX Memory Size (RAM) and several other features. It also newer than the (I7 released 2014) released in 2016 Q1.

Based on your experience guys, (I got a quote with a local computer shop to build my computer with I7 5960x but now I want to switch to the Xeon one).

I will use the next computer for in-depth and HD rendering using several design software. I will also play games occasionally but not as much.

Many people told me that the Xeon is for server use only, but I went to youtube and have seen many commentators sayin that the Xeon is valid for both servers and faster rendering than I7 counterparts.

Which one should i choose? do I need a special power supply rather than the 110w wall plug in my basement? if the Xeon or I7 computer consumed more watts, will it burn out or cause damage to the house electricity?

I am thinking to purchase Xeon to install 128 G Ram and that is not affordable with I7 5960x.

Please let me know as I will be heading to the computers shop tomorrow.

Thanks

I went tomshardware all the time looking for help and i finally decided to sign up and try helping a few people.
https://pcpartpicker.com/ go on this site and add the parts that you want and it will show what other parts are compatible with a link to Newegg or Amazon or any other retailer selling what you want. If you're going to a shop they might not have all that you want because that's some very expensive stuff, unless you checked in with the stores first.
