Wireless Adapter Problems

PREPARE FOR THE WORST FORMATTING YOU'VE EVER SEEN

So recently (Within the past 3 weeks, give or take) my ping while gaming has spiking incredibly high. My ping use to sit anywhere from 100-150ms.

Within the last three weeks it will sit at around 120ms, but whenever any sort of action starts up, such as a spell being cast in LoL, or some form of non-walking movement occurs in Rainbow Six: Siege (Vaulting, Rappelling...) my ping will jump in between the range of 500-800ms and will hold steady in this range until the action stops.
Just in case:
My Wireless Adapter just passed its first year of use
My Wireless Adapter is the D-Link DWA-556

Recently, I've bought a pretty solid Cat5e cord for my PC, which lowers my ping to a constant 70-80ms no matter what occurs. Sadly I'm only able to use this cord on the weekend due to its length/tripping ability (Trust me, I wanted a cord that would span across the roof instead, but they never liked that idea for whatever reason).
Just in case:
The Router I use is the Linksys E3000.
It's about 4 years old, but the only sign it shows of aging is dust.

Now, I'm sitting here on a Tuesday, unable to play any online games which is really frustrating.
My question for you guys out there that are way more experienced than me, "Is my incredibly high ping being caused by my Wireless adapter or my Router?
If it's being caused by my router, what are some good replacements to it? The same can go for my Wireless Adapter (Please don't recommend the crazy expensive ones).

Also another "Just In Case:
The Download speed/Upload speed don't change in any form or way when I'm using the cord.

Solution
Depends. If your internet plan is above 5mbs(What Im assuming from the 3mbs) like 30 to 100 or maybe even 200, then it is your router thats not doing well. However, if your plan is 5mbs, Id suggest you upgrade the plan or switch to a much better service provider, and also get a new router.

Although that is just one thing, what I would suggest you do is system refresh or delete and reinstall the driver for the adapter. It's probably better if you update the driver too, as it might fix issues. Also, try flushing your dns. It helps sometimes.

What are your download and upload speeds? Check if your internet service provider has scheduled maintenance in your area. And is this limited to a select few games, all games, or accessing the internet in general?

Thanks for the swift response!
Over the period of 3 test runs, this is what I averaged them out to be:
Download Speed: 2.89Mbps
Upload Speed: 0.92Mbps
Keep in mind that there was pretty much only a 0.3 Mbps difference in Download speed from lowest download speed to highest download speed and a 0.04Mbps Upload speed from lowest Upload speed to highest Upload speed.

Currently my internet provider isn't doing any sort of scheduled maintenance, however, about one month ago they did finish some maintenance on the towers to improve the overall speed they provided, I was able to notice a small boost in my download speed by about 0.3Mbps or so, but I saw no improvement in Upload speed.

The overall slowness of my WiFi is noticeable everywhere, but mostly during gaming (All games that I own are affected). The slow internet is fairly noticeable when doing basic things over google, such as browsing this and listening to music via Youtube (144p).
