I'm using my old 8 year old PC (intel d975xbx2 motherboard) as my HTPC.
At some point it began having trouble booting - getting stuck at the MB splash screen or just the black screen before it. If I clear all usb ports it helps, it still might happen, or just take a pretty long time on those screens but I can get it to boot after a few tries. Wondering if there's anything I could try to fix it or if it's just the mobo/components aging.
I have the latest bios and chipset drivers installed
Thanks.

Solution
when it boots again download hdtune check drive smart info for errors. most time if you see the bios screen and the pc hanging it becuase of aging hard drive. on old pc make sure you change outt the cmos battery. if there weak some mb do strange issues. with the case open look at the power supply and mb for any leaking caps or swelled caps.
