I have 3 Motorola Photon Q phones. I like them and don't want to throw them in the box with all the other dead phones I have from whenever I have switched providers or upgraded. All three phones work, but here's the problem. When I bought the phones, and I do own them, they came loaded with software from the company I bought them from, Scratch Wireless. This company has apparently gone out of business because they don't offer their cell service anymore. I want to get rid of their software from my phones so that I can use these phones with a different provider. From what I have seen, I need to root the phones so I can have access to the software and then be able to remove what I need to be able to accomplish what I want. I have never done this before, and I don't want to create bricks. I would be willing to go so far as to remove everything from the phones and then reinstall the Android v. 4.1.2 Jellybean OS if I have to, and maybe this is the better way to go, but I'm not sure how to do this either. Can anybody help walk me through this so I can continue to use my phones. I don't like proprietary software like this and really want to get rid of it. They don't own my phones.
