Peice of computer hardware

Hi guys

It is my first post in the Toms Hardware forums.

I recently got my pc delivered via fedex, and as you all may have guessed it didn't come in the best of conditions.

Much cosmetic damage and a magnet seems to have fallen out from somewhere, it feels like a pretty stong magnet, I suspect its from the Hard drives/ssd or cd drives but I am not sure

I have attached a picture of the magnet if anyone could help identify if this is a crucial part and if there is anything I should know?

The only thing I can think of is that it is used to hold the front door shut.

That's not from any computer component, I'd contact whoever you got your pc from and ask them why the heck they put a loose magnet inside the case

Hi guys

Appreciate all the responses, however I built the PC myself so I know what in it etc, but the most likely response seems to be that is it the magnet for the front panel to close it. Will test it once I get back from work

I was worried its from my hard drive and probably lost my hard drive data, I haven't taken them out yet because It would mean a lot of work cutting wire ties and re-cabling etc.

But yes front panel magnet seems most likely will check and let you guys know

and no that doesnt look like a magnet from a hdd at all.

Just got home, case door seems to be closing, hard drives and cd drive look in order. God knows where this funky looking magnet as fallen from. I guess I will just start setting it back up and find out once if it POSTS

I just emailed Fractal Design and one of the chaps there, helpful enough took a look at the picture and said that is the 'Front Panel closing magnet' there must of been two magnets. so thanks again everyone

Interesting, sorry we couldn't help you! But thanks for the information. Maybe some1 else will post like "what the $&@# is this magnet???" And we can help them now
