I have a large amount of data 5T+ and growing. I need a backup solution that I will not outgrow soon. I'm tired of replacing full drives with a larger one. Right now I'm thinking RAID 5-6 with at least 4 4-5T drives. My question is are there alternatives (besides cloud) that I should be considering? Are there other methods that are more effective to achieve the same result? Since this will be part of a backup system performance is not the highest priority. Thanks

Multiple divers, high capacity, connected like JOBD (just a bunch of disks) have high chances to fail irrecoverable. You need a RAID with some redundancy to be safe - RAID 5 at minimum, RAID 6 recommended for such a big array.
I strongly recommend a hardware RAID - I have got from eBay a 3Ware 9650SE - they have versions with 4, 6, 8, 12, and 16 drives. Dedicated processor, cache RAM, battery back-up option, works on Windows 10, latest firmware has support for 4TB drives... You just need to get the adapter SATA cables too with the card, since they use high-density SFF-8087 connectors.
