Fresh Windows 7 install - Stuck on windows updating

I'm at a loss. I just had a fresh Windows 7 installation and have been trying to update the past few hours. But it's just still stuck at "checking for updates"

I've already downloaded all other drivers, software etc. Basically it's good to go except for this update.

i've already checked the microsoft fix it and diagnostic tool etc but it's not working.

Is this normal or is there a fix for this?

windows 7 servers we changed 1/2 from the life of 7 do to people breaking windows 7 there were a lot of non vaild copies of windows rolling around. try running the windows valiation tool. if not the fix let it try for a while. there been other post that it took amost 24 hours for windows 7 to start updating.

in C:\Windows\System32 there is a file called windowsupdate.log or something. It is a running list of the updates applied and all of the connectivity/etc. around the updates. It's a text file that relatively easy to read.

Though you may not have a great understanding of all that it says, it will have diagnostic info within that will assist with isolating the problem. "Find" the word "error" or err or something like fail or failure... It will have repeated itself for every occurrence you've attempted the update, so there should be multiple hits.

I have had trouble at times with patch installation order...

And finally, didn't MS just release a manual "cumulative update" which is current as of about a month ago? look for it too. Good luck.

Afterwards I can normally install the rollup

it took a few for my pc as well. no more than 5 minutes though. the roll-up has taken 10 minutes for me on one system and more than an hour on others. so give it time.

once it is installed though, windows update has behaved itself for me and let me get and install the other updates not included. all those .net updates and a few optional win 7 ones are not included. i just selected everything and the ran the GWX panel and anti-beacon once it was done updating everything and disabled those features.
