Hello All, I hope you are having a good delightful day !

I am building my custom desktop and I am using Intel Xeon E5 2667 V4.

I just ordered this CPU from Intel and It will arrive in 3-5 business days. I live in Canada. What mother board should I buy for it and what ram. What power supply also?

If I fail to put the thing together I will go to a local computer guy to put it together.

I want to buy latest Mother Board, latest power supply, ram, GTX 1080 (assuming it works not only for I7 cores).

Please help me.

Many Thanks :)

Solution
Haha... That's hilarious.

Yes, GPU is the graphics card, but it isn't necessarily the graphics card. Graphics cards are GPUs. You need it.

You can use my Graphics card, cooler, case and RAM as a reference to the specialist. Good luck and mark this thread as solved.

Rendering and 3d Design + Gaming.

What does GPU means?

Wow... Xeon E5, you're planning for something beastly, no?

Just get a good server-grade LGA2011-3 boards (don't buy the older ones), any brand is fine, just make sure that it supports your CPU.

The 1080 is a GPU, Graphics processing unit, or Graphics card (not necessarily). RAM doesn't matter that much too.

Sorry, I'm on a phone, can't give you the exact brand/model.

Hi Steve,

Ok, so I don't need to purchase a graphics Card for this Xeon?

When buying the Xeon E5 from Intel's website, I looked at the section compatibles and have seen two main catogeies:

1- Intel Server System
2- Intel Server Board (is this the motherboard name for Xeon or something else)?

To get my 2000 $ E5 CPU running, do I have to purchase the two Intel Server System?

What cooling system/fans should I get?

Where to buy the tower case from?

I feel I am lost in the world of technology not knowing what to buy. I don't want to buy incompatible parts as they are not refundable in some cases.

Help!

Excuse me, first of all, I'm not that knowledgeable in server systems. I don't know what those "Intel server systems" are, but any Xeon processors will work if paired With a motherboard (doesn't require a dedicated system or whatever it is).

Like I said, you can get any good LGA2011-v3 board, there're plenty of options, I can't give a link to which one is best because it doesn't mater that much and I'm currently on a phone... It should work. You can get professional help if you're not confident on this one (like say, putting the processor, updating BIOS, etc.)

You need a GPU, because your processor has no GPU in it. The 1080 is going to be an excellent choice. You can get any DDR4 RAM.

Any heatsink+fan should work. Here's my favourite:

Edit: Steve? Who's that?

Lol!!!!

My mistake, I accidentally wrote Steve.

Sorry about that! So a GPU is the graphics card?

I don't know much about the shortcuts.

I guess I am going to speak to a specialist this week.

thanks anyway.

regards
