Hey guys,

Just seeking some quick opinions. I was recently bitten by the upgrade bug and searching Tom's Hardware & the overclock.net forum I was made aware that a Xeon X5650 can be popped in to my motherboard and overclocked to the sky. I spent $60 on eBay and did just that.

I plan on purchasing a GTX 1070 when they release. Will my Xeon have any issues pushing it? How much longer do you think it will be until I have to ugprade?

I appreciate any and all help!

UserBenchmarks: Desk 69%, Game 33%, Work 59%
CPU: Intel Xeon X5650 - 77.4%
GPU: AMD HD 7850 - 26.8%
SSD: Mushkin Reactor 1TB - 73.3%
HDD: WD Black 500GB (2008) - 51.1%
RAM: Unknown 6x4GB - 51.1%
MBD: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R

The 1366 Xeons are still beasts. Especially the bigger ones. My Xeon W3670 has the same cores/threads/cache as your X5650. But mine has to live at 3.2/3.4 GHz because it is in a workstation. But it can still equal and sometimes out run my FX-8350.

I would suspect the X5650 at those clocks should be able to keep up with the 1070 easily at 1080p. Can't guarantee the frame rate, but it will be way above 60fps.

Hard to say just how potent the 1070 will actually be in actual gameplay. Supposedly it will be faster than a Titan X. If so, you will have some bottleneck, yes. And at 1680x1050, the 1070 will be major overkill. But your system still has great potential for gaming. How high did you get the Xeon OC'ed to?

Hey, thanks for the reply!

I have the Xeon at 4ghz. I wanted to go higher but I need a better cooler to do so.

I also plan to pick up a 1080p or 1440p 144hz monitor and hope to able to actually get 144fps out of this setup.
