Need Help Upgrading Older System

So I built this PC about three years ago and its starting to show some age. I am kinda on the fence on whether or not I should just buy a whole new system or if it will still be cheaper upgrading this one.

The biggest concern is whether or not my Motherboard will be able to handle the newer hardware.

I did a bit of looking about the motherboard and it does say it can handle i7's, which is what I wanted to upgrade to, and 16gb or ram.

My question is, should I trust that whatever I get will work on this board, or should I just buy a newer one to make life easier?

1) What is your budget? If you have the budget, but the whole new one, and reuse the SSD/HDD, DVD, etc., but I don't know you can reuse the win10 or not.
2) Your MB can support the i7 like 3770 or 3770K.
3) Yes, the MB can handle most newer hardware, like gtx1070, but not for the M2 SSD, and may buy the adapter for it.

I don't technically have a budget, as this was going to be a piece by piece thing and I know processors cost quite a few hundred. I don't plan on upgrading my SSD anytime soon, just because I haven't had any issues with the one I have now.

I just didn't want to rush out and buy a newer i7 only to find out my MB is not compatible with it. So if I decide to buy an i7 running 4GHz, I am going to need a newer MB?

I appreciate the help, cin19, sounds like I'll be replacing my motherboard when I get the new processor. I also have a look into Windows 10 and see if I will be able to reactivate on a new board.
