Newbie: new PSU issue? Missing cable, no display?

So I bought a new PSU which I was recommended. Tried to put it in, and there's a connected cable on the old PSU that has no alternative on the new one. Trying to start up the computer without it plugged in, it starts but there's no display and I had to turn the actual PSU off.
What is this, and why isn't there a cable for it? What do I do now? Do I have to get a refund and get a different one (I really hope not), and if so how do I avoid this issue again?

Do you have a 8 pin power cable Typically that's the other one that they'd come with. From what I understand the 8pin is pretty much the same as the 4 pin on one side so you should be able to get an adapter.

check the specifications/manual when you buy PSU to see if it has a 4pin power connector(for cpu)

Typically, I check the manual/pictures of motherboard, then check specifications/manual on PSU when buying either/both to ensure the psu comes with the required power cables because there are a couple different setups(most are the same though)

depending on what your PSU has for connectors there's a chance there is an adapter, I've never had to look so not sure if that is available.

I'm quite annoyed that I was recommended this, I asked if there was anything I needed to watch out for other than quality and wattage and nobody ever mentioned this. Argh. It makes me really disheartened with trying to get into PC gaming and actually just learning about them.

I'll do a bit of searching to see if there's any connectors, it would be a lot easier to do that than to get a refund and buy a new one.

Thank you SO much for mentioning that it was for the CPU. Doing some searches told me that there would be an 8pin connector that splits into two.
Thank you, seriously.

Edit: and while I was posting that you basically explained that! Haha, thank you. You've saved my night, I was going to go and scowl at the wall.
