Shutdown Computer but Resume Shared HD Folder

Is it possible to shutdown the computer but leave the shared folder enabled? I have a server which downloads to the shared folder but if the computers off it obviously doesn't doesnt communicate.

Any way of shutting down the computer but leaving the second drive on somehow?

No. That is not possible. The second drive would have no means to communicate with anything if its host computer were shut down. There are some routers that can act like a NAS and you could attached an external HDD to such a router and do much of what you are seeking to do.

Just an option to consider.
