Does anyone have recommendations for a cheap external flash drive for an iphone 6? (micro USB port) I dont feel like spending $240 for a 256gb Leef iBridge when I am certain there are cheaper alternatives! Basically I simply want to put a bunch of podcasts onto it so I can transfer directly to my poor 8GB iphone 6 when I have listened to all I can hold on it. Thanks

WD My Passport drives and others are great options. They are simply hard drives that broadcast their own wifi signal that your phone can connect to. They have much more storage and cost far less per gigabyte. The downside to this is that the drive is big and has a finite battery life. If you really want a smaller, physical connection, then I'm afraid you are stuck. The best option is probably Sandisk's iXpand 128Gb drive for $110.

I should have added I will be going far north for a month, and will have no access to wifi or even cell service. This is why I was looking for something to store a bunch of podcasts on other than my phone. I will check out the iXpand, as it seems cheaper than the 128gb version of the Leef.

I think you might have mis-read... no worries. The WD MyPassport drives and others like it CREATE their own wifi to connect to. Obviously this won't be connected to the internet but does allow files to pass between your phone and the drive. this would be my preference in your situation because it can store a lot more and is cheaper.

So I see that WD MyPassport Ultra can be had for roughly $90 in a terabyte of storage space, which would be plenty for my needs. Just would like to confirm, this drive will be able to plug directly into my Iphone 6 which has the micro usb port, and I can transfer things (podcasts) directly from phone to drive, and vice versa, regardless if there is cell service? How is this done, is there an application that is used?

You need to but this item: http://www.amazon.com/Passport-Wireless-Portable-External-Drive/dp/B00M9B3XZM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1464638199&sr=8-2&keywords=wd+my+passport+wireless

The other mypassport driver don't work with iphones because they are not wireless. The one you were looking at for example is not a wireless model. Also, on a side note, your iphone does not have a micro usb port but rather a lightning connector, however in the case of the wireless drives it doesn't need a cable. You download an app on your phone, turn on the and transfer wirelessly regardless of your connection to wifi/ the outside world via cell service. If you want to know how it works, see the owner;s manual here: http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/UM/ENG/4779-705118.pdf

If you have any more questions, let me know.
