CPU - FX-8320
MOBO - M5a97 LE R2.0
Heatsink - Corsair H60

Whenever I was stress testing, my CPU's frequency would go from 4100MHz to 1300MHz and then back up over and over. My temperatures never went above 40C.
I tried several programs including Prime95, Intel BurnTest, and AIDA64.

Do any of y'all know why this might be happening. This never happened before and even on default speeds it still drops.

NOTE: I just installed the H60 today.

Solution
EXACTLY ^ That board has no heatsinks on the VRM's and is very unstable with 125W CPU's , one of the worst boards on the market for FX 125W. CPU's.

Should be labeled for 95w FX CPU's only in my opinion.
Although the motherboard 'supports' a FX 8320, under full stress testing, the VRMs and power delivery system can overheat and throttle the CPU.

Running with the case open and/or using zip ties to fix a case fan so that it blows directly on the VRMs may significantly reduce this problem.

Going to a liquid cooler has moved some of the airflow away from the motherboard. A top-down air cooler is best for this situation (but may not entirely solve the issue)

They would help if installed properly, but so would a fan, and a fan would work better.

That board also has fewer power phases than you need and you are 'pushing on a rope' to expect high performance gaming out of it on a regular and reliable basis.

At this point I'm just looking to be able to play BF4 or Planetside2 for more than 30 mins at stock speeds. It throttles my CPU even when playing at stock speeds.

I actually just went to go check my fans and the fan at the top of the case that blows down on the VRM was being blocked by a loose wire *facepalm*

I also have a spare case fan I might set up to also blow on the VRM.
