What is the difference between SDRAM and regular RAM?

In its day, SDRAM was the "regular" RAM. DDR wouldn't fit in a an SDRAM slot and vice versa.
SDRAM is quite old now so you might wish to consider buying a more modern motherboard. Compare sticks of the differing variety and you will see the gap in the pins is in a different place.
