Time between Reference Cards and Manufacturer Cards

Can anyone tell me how much time there usually is between the release of nVidia reference cards (or Founders Cards in this case) and the release of custom cards by other manufacturers like MSI, Gigabyte and Asus? I can't seem to find any information of the spread between releases both of the 700- and 900-series. I want to skip the Founders Card to go for a factory overclocked version with better overclocking capabilities. Thanks in advance for the answer(s)!

yeah but aftermarket manufactorers usually test the refrence & build their copy to suit & improve the flaws the refrence cards have in them & put better componentry in them realistically just wait for the next gen to be released & keep an eye out for the aftermarket companies

I love the Strix series from Asus so I would rather wait for that. But how much time are we talking about? Weeks, months? How much spread in time was there in the past with the 600-, 700- and 900- series? I can't find information about this.

I'm afraid this doesn't answer my question. I'm asking about a time-span based on data from the past.

I'm sorry, but I'm having a very hard time decoding your messages. I'm pretty sure it doesn't take 6 months for manufacturers to come out with their own versions. Anybody have a more realistic time-span for me?

Is the 1080/1070 the same shape etc as the 980/970? If so shouldn't it be pretty simple to take the existing design and replace the innards? Cooling should be similar. If not then I guess time is needed to redesign. I'm holding out for an Asus strix 1070.
