Hi
I've been having an issue (title). However I found out that when I unplug my HDD, turn on the PC and it will bring up the proper boot device screen. I then turn it off, plug in my HDD and it starts up just fine. But it's pretty annoying having to do that every time.

Solution
Welcome to the TH community, tutkis!

I'd advise you to backup all your data from the HDD off-site and make sure it is safe and sound stored elsewhere. Afterwards, I'd suggest you reseat all your internal hardware connections and be certain that everything is mounted properly. I'd also suggest you change the SATA cable that is connecting the hard drive to the motherboard and check how your system will boot after the cable swap. I'd also check how the PC will boot with the drive connected to a different SATA port on the mobo as well. It might also be a good idea to use the HDD manufacturer's brand-specific diagnostic tool to check up on the health and SMART status.

If the issue still persists, I'd advise you to test the power...

Keep us posted! Good luck! :)

Thanks for the nice welcome.
I got HDTune but didn't get any errors. I had tried a different sata port before but the problem persisted. Today I got myself a new sata cable and that seems to have done it. I'll report back tomorrow if I get it again.
Thank you for your help.

ahh I guess not. There are 2 things I can add:
It happens after a prolonged time of inactivity, f.e. it always happens in the morning.
It started after I changed my CPU cooler.

Hey there again, tutkis!

You should definitely check your connections again and make sure everything is mounted properly inside your rig. You should pay special attention to the PSU as @Plumboby suggested and undertake immediate action, if it's malfunctioning. It might also be a good idea to troubleshoot and benchmark every component.
If you want to avoid the headaches of doing this by yourself, you might want to refer to the closest PC repair service and let the guys there perform full diagnostics on your rig.

Hope this was helpful. Best of luck!
