I am trying to determine if my current power supply will be sufficient for upgrading to a gtx 1070 upon release. When I enter my specs into various PSU calculators, I get wildly different results. For example, eXtreme's utility recommends only 418 W, while Newegg's recommends 687 W. Why is there such a discrepancy? Do I need to upgrade my PSU? Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

PSU: Corsair TX650
CPU: Core i5 3570k
MB: ASRock Extreme Z77
RAM: 8 GB DDR3
SSD: Samsung 840, 250GB
HDD: WD 750 GB 7200 RPM

A quality 450-500W PSU would be sufficient, even giving you a bit of headroom for OCing.
Tier 1 or 2 would be recommended, if you didn't have a PSU at the moment.. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html

You have a TX650 which is a bit older, and has a variety of models. If that's a V1 (model CMPSU-650TX) or V2 (CMPSU-650TXV2) they're SeaSonic PSUs and quality units. Models ending 650TXM or 650TX-C, no so much.

You have more than enough headroom. The 1070 is likely to be very similar in requirements to the 7850. Maybe a little more, maybe a little less, but nothing that's going to make either a V1 or V2 650TX a bad option - you'd still have more than enough headroom.

If you have a V1 or V2, you're fine. If...

If you have a V1 or V2, you're fine. If you have a "TXM" or "TX-C", i'd suggest you replace.
