Old CPU Cooler bracket trouble

I've removed the old CPU cooler from a PC ready for a new one. However the old bracket is still in place and appears to be stuck on very tightly with some kind of glue.

Does anyone know how to remove it? Preferably in the safest way possible that would cause the least damage to me or any of the components. Ideally without having to remove the motherboard.

Thanks in advance.

I doubt that a hair dryer can get hot enough to melt solder. But they do cause a lot of house fires. So yes, if you over heat the board you could damage the solder joints.

The best way would to put the dryer on low heat. then move it in a small circular motion 3-4 inches from the backplate. every few seconds get in there with a hard plastic stick and see if the glue is giving. then continue.

What model Cooler Master cooler was it? None I ever worked with had any kind of glue on them. It may just be stuck from the board's lacquer getting warm. Try prying it off with a thin bladed flat screwdriver somewhere there are no solder points or traces showing. Near one of the mounting holes.

How would be the best way to do this? And could I damage anything?
