Hey guys,
Finally taking the plunge and getting an SSD for my PC (Samsung 850 EVO 250GB) and want to transfer my OS to the new SSD. Upside, thanks to waiting a while, and knowing people who have done it, I have a pretty good idea how to transfer my OS.
The two ways I could tranfer my OS are to use an image of Windows 7 (using Macrium Reflect as that's what I'm used to) OR to use the provided Samsung Migration Software (which seems far simpler and less of a hassle; no fiddling with Recovery Disks, etc).
My PC currently has two hard drives: a 1TB Samsung Drive which contains E Drive as a Single (1) Partition and is primarily used to store games and virtual machines.
I also have a 1TB WD Drive split between 2 Partitions (C and D Drives ~100GB for C, and the other ~8-900GB for D; where C is Windows and D is my various data files (music, pictures, documents, etc)
My problem is that using Macrium would be more complicated but offer the option of making sure that only C Drive is wiped, and the extra 100GB added to D Drive as extra space, but, like I said, I find this method a little more tedious.
On the other hand, the Samung Migration Software seems to make things a hell of a lot easier, but one of the problems it mentions when running it (at least in the tutorial videos I've watched) it says that it wipes the drive after its finished what its doing; in a nutshell, CUTTING and pasting Windows 7 to a new Drive, rather than COPYING and pasting, if that makes sense.
My question is: would the Samsung Migration Software just wipe C Drive (i.e. that 1 Partition on my WD Drive) and leave D Drive alone; effectively leaving ~100GB of unformatted/unallocated space
OR
would it wipe the ENTIRE drive, taking both Partitions (C and D) with it?
Hopefully I've made that clear enough, but if not, do let me know and I'll try my best to clarify.
Thanks guys!
PS
Yes, I do intend to image my Windows (C) Drive as well as backing up my D Drive data to an external drive before doing anything.
