I currently have an AMD system. Motherboard is the Asus Sabertooth 990FX first generation, the processor is a Phenom II 965 and my RAM is GSkill 8GB 1333. I want to increase the RAM to 16GB, but I am not sure what speed I should get. I am also planning to upgrade my processor later on to a FX8300. I am starting to do more photoshop and video processing and I have also received the low system memory message while playing games.

Any advice would be appreciated.

If you're going to do the editing and upgrade to an 8350 I'd go with 2133 MHz ram, it can run slower just fine till u upgrade and the 8350 may or may not run it at 2133 but it's pretty well max speed for an amd processor. 2133 ram is just a couple of bucks more than the cheap stuff anyways

+1 might be able to run 16GB with your 965 at 1600 (will need to set the DRAM up manually

Thanks for the information guys. I think I will be getting 2133 G Skill sticks. Newegg has a good price on them now, they are less than some of the slower speed RAM kits. Will I have to manually set the speed and timings in the bios with the new RAM?
