It almost sounds like a switch being turned on/off or something. It's NOT the "click of death", and aside from the noise my computer works like a dream (for the moment, at least). It's driving me insane because sometimes I want to go lay on my bed and read a book but I can't because SNAP, SNAP, SNAP, SNAP. It's really loud too. Obviously it's not that frequent but that makes it all the more annoying in mind, the way it doesn't seem to have any kind of pattern. And it makes the sound regardless of what I'm doing on my computer: I could be doing nothing and it'll still do it.

This happened after we installed a new motherboard, CPU and 12gb of RAM. As a result I obviously had to reformat everything so now I'm running Windows 8.1 instead of 7 which I had before. Also the white cable that goes to my HDD was swapped with the new one that came with the motherboard. I'm thinking of changing it back to the old one to see if that fixes it, but I can't see why or how it would.

Please help. If more details need to be provided, I'll happily do so. Anything to get this snapping/clicking sound out of my brain.

My HDD is called SAMSUNG HD103SJ.
