I have an HP h8-1214 desktop computer running W10 pro. Initially when I would plug a headset into the front audio jack, the speakers that are plugged into the rear jack shut off and all sound came out the headphones. Now, the front jack seems to be designated "communications headphones" and do not get sound when plugged in nor do the speakers shut off. I did not make any changes knowingly, but this just started happening. I've looked at drivers. IDT High Def Audio codec and the "beats audio control panel" but can't find any setting to revert to the old operation. Any ideas????

Solution
1| What you're experiencing is Windows automatically updating your device drivers. Please make sure you've disabled the automatic device driver update feature.
2| Uninstall your audio drivers from Device Manger and reinstall using drivers found off HP's support site. I'd advise you to download the drivers found under Windows 7's drop down menu and then install them in compatibility mode:
Right click installer>Properties>Compatibility Tab>Windows 7 [from drop down menu]

Thank you very much for your response. I (partially) tried your solution and it WORKED!!! My speakers & headphones work just like they used to. When I say partially, I mean I uninstalled the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC from BOTH the "Communications Headphones" device under the "Audio inputs and outputs" line of the Device Manager AND the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC under the "Sound, Video and game controllers" line of the Device Manager. However, when I rebooted after that, the system must have automatically reinstalled an IDT driver because there was one (same name, IDT High Definition Audio CODEC) listed in the Device Manager for the "Sound, Video and game controllers" line but there was no "Communications Headphones" device under the "Audio inputs and outputs line and everything was working correctly.
I had tried uninstalling the driver from the Communications Headphone device before with no luck, but I hadn't uninstalled it from the Sound, video and game controller line of the device manager.
Thanks again for your help.
