My setup powered by ASRock's mITX Z170 board had the infamous mac address message being shown during post
Intel MAC addresses are invalid in both CMOS and Flash

Quick googling and contacting support both confirmed, that ASRocks mac address tool had to be used to write the MAC address.

Now, my concern is about the risk it carries. How likely it is that I'm going to brick the board by using that tool?

Note that both ethernet and wireless connection works on my board, despite some people with the same problem stating otherwise, meaning the only tangible downside for me is having to press F1 on POST to get past that warning message.
