Hi guys,

For the first time, I am building my own PC and I am enjoying it. However, without help from this forum, things would have been very difficult until now. Thanks to experts here, I managed to get excellent guidance up to now.

I am having a new issue, regarding the CPU. I have not yet bought it. I actually have only the CPU which remains to be bought. I went to an IT retailer to get my Core i5 6500 today but there was something that bothered me:

When I looked on the net before going to the retailer, I saw that the S-spec of the Core i5 6500 is SR2BX. However, when I looked on the box of the Core i5 6500 which the guy is selling at the IT shop, the S-spec of the Core i5 6500 SR2L6. Everything else is OK. I thus returned home without buying the CPU since I had doubts.

I searched on google, the difference between SR2BX and SR2L6 for the CPU S-spec and the it had to do with the stepping of the CPU. I do not really understand hell in this. Maybe someone here can guide me.

All I want to know is whether this Core i5 6500 CPU with the S-spec of SR2L6, is good for my build? Will it be as good as that with the S-spec of SR2BX?

Also, is it a pre-production, engineering sample CPU? If this is the case, I better stay far away from this...

Any inputs are the most welcome.

Kindest Regards

Yeah, I think that it has got something to do with the version....But is the Core i5 6500 CPU with the S-spec of SR2L6 as reliable as that with the S-spec of SR2BX?

Is S-spec of SR2L6 a pre-production, engineering sample CPU?

From what I read, the SR2L6 CPU has one additional feature which the SR2BX does not have: SGX (Software Guard Extensions).

However, I was a little bit doubtful because the SR2L6 CPU link you specified does not include any information about the types of memory with which it is compatible, the Direct Memory Interface speed, the Frequency of integrated graphics controller in turbo mode etc.
