Very slow NAS transfer speeds

I just set up my NAS with freenas and wanted to copy over 70GB of photos for safe storage. It said 12 hours. SO i checked the transfer speed and it ranged anywhere from 1.0MB/s to 1.70MB/s. I looked up online and this is really slow and i am wondering why.
The route from my computer to my NAS is Computer through a powerline connection to router, then powerline again from router to NAS. I know powerline is not the best option, but its better than wireless. I ordered a network card for my NAS hoping this would make a difference?

Unless you suspect your current NIC is defective, it's doubtful a new one will make a difference. The powerline connection quality is likely just not good enough to support anything higher than one you're experiencing now, especially over two sets of powerline adapters.

If you're doing a one time mass file transfer, it would be faster using a USB thumb drive or other portable drive.

Currently i dont have a NIC, just using the motherboard connection.

It shouldn't in most circumstances. An Intel PRO gigabit NIC might be a little easier on the CPU than the on board NIC, but they will both be able to max out wire speed on gigabit.
