What are safe values for overclocking an EVGA 970 FTW

I have MSI Afterburner and EVGA Precision X. Does it really matter which one I use? The title pretty much says it all. I don't want anything crazy that would involve overvolting. EVGA doesn't mind if we overclock or overvolt the card but I am not looking to push this baby too far.

Solution
Maybe I should make a website. I'll put all my tips there instead of typing it every time, especially on mobile device.

Every card overclocks differently depending on your luck in the silicon lottery.
You want to use a software tool, any in OP will be fine. It really doesn't matter which. What you want to do is start increasing the core clock by 30 MHz and then run stability test with ungine heaven benchmark. You want to look for artifacts and high temperatures. If there's none and temps are under 85C after a run, increase the memory clock by 30 MHz. Then test again. Do one at a time in this order until your temps are close to 85C or you start to see artifacts, then you back it down a notch. Since you are not overvolting, then you have...

If you want to increase voltage, then you wil slightly increase voltage and OC again, until you hit 1.3v. What you can do is set the msi afterburner temp limit slider to 90C.

Thanks for that. I will play the lottery later on this evening. A side question if I may. Does FTW mean I have a better GPU than the standard version. I've heard about binning. And yes I understand FTW means for the win.

Yea basically the FTW is the tier above the sc version. Binning is when the card passes the tests for regular and becomes so, and so on. Si your card should be able to handle a good OC. So compared to the regular 970, the FTW is better generally
