Hello!

I recently downloaded a torrent which included a virus. When I noticed that I had a virus I wanted to restore my Windows to an earlier version through System Recovery. When this failed I decided to reinstall Windows. When I powered off my PC, I was unable to power it on again. When I try to power it on, the fan will start spinning slowly and it seems that the PC is starting to boot up. It will lose power after about 1 - 3 seconds and then it will start booting again. The screen stays completely black and nothing is shown on the screen. I can't even get into the BIOS either.

These problems started right after the reboot when I saw I had downloaded a virus so I am 100% sure the virus is the cause of this.

I was using Windows 10, My motherboard is an ASUS P8Z77-V.

The things I already tried:
- Use another screen
- Try using a recovery disk

Does anyone of you know how to solve this issue?

Thanks alot in advance!
Vincent

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.
The problem is that I am unable to set CD/DVD as the priority boot sequence in the BIOS. (Since I am unable to get to the BIOS because of the black screen)

Do not think this type of failure is cause of a virus, it is hardware issue and not software. It just happens that this happened after getting a virus. To fix black or blank screens, either a-your monitor is bad or b-gpu is bad and you can test if gpu is bad by using on board video rather then plugging into the gpu. Test monitor with another monitor. If this does not help, then start by testing the ram, psu, cpu, motherboard, checking standoffs, HDD-probably not hdd because i never had a hdd cause this type of a problem.

It could be hardware failure as stated above, but also could just be UEFI acting too fast for you to input the command. Simply remove your HDD and turn on the computer without HDD, then enter the BIOS and enable a startup delay and change the boot order so the disk/usb is first

For those wondering, it was an overclock issue. I left the PC alone for about 1 - 2 hours and then tried booting again. I could see the PC booting up and it showed the message "Overclocking failed". I then managed to get into the BIOS and reset it to default settings, after that I could boot up again as normal.

Thanks for your help!
