Computer Won't Boot; DRAM Red LED

I built my first PC today, when I powered it on using the graphics card, I noticed that it only recognized 4 of the 8gb of RAM that I had installed.

I decided to continue and install Windows and a few drivers/programs (Nvidia, Razer) and Steam, Chrome. Foolishly ( I guess), after I installed a few things, I decided to power off, and see if I had properly installed the RAM as only 4 of the 8 were showing. I neglected to put in the MB driver disc prior to doing so.

I took the RAM out, and reseated them and turned back on the computer. I heard the normal beep that I hear once I turn it on, however the Monitor said no signal, and my keyboard and mouse did not turn on.

The fans inside the case however did turn on. As well as a RED DRAM light. It is possible that this light was on when I had originally turned on the PC and started installing windows, etc. But I am not sure.

I tried to turn the computer off using the power switch on my case. That did not work. I used the reset switch, that worked, however all it did was reboot to the same black screen.

So I had to use the switch on my PSU to power down my computer.

Since then, i've reseated the RAM, and learned that I was using the wrong slot originally. I was supposed to use A2 & B2, not A1& B. I put the ram in the correct slots, same issue results.

I can only hope that this is an issue with the RAM, as I have discovered that the RAM, 2133 4x2 Crucial was not on the compatability list for 2133 RAM with my Asus z170-A motherboard.

I unplugged everything from my PSU, replugeed them all, same issue. So in my novice opinion, it seems that either the MB or the RAM has an issue. Could the MB be the cause? Not only does the DRAM light stay solid red, but my keyboard which is plugged into the back of the computer, does not power on.

Is it just the MB's RAM slots?

Or is it the RAM?

Some more information:

MB- Asus z170-A
RAM: Crucial 8gb (4x2)
PSU: 750W EVGA

Any help will be greatly appreciated, I am a novice.

Solution
Ok fine, you can test the ram by using one stick and if no boot, then use one stick again but do the other one. That is how you test ram. To test motherbaord, vertify your psu is good and then hook up ram, mb, psu,cpu and that is it. No boot-mb if boot-plug in everything else one by one until failture.

Because I don't know much about computers, this is my first build and all I know comes from dozens of hours of youtube videos. At first the MB recognized the RAM, as it booted and showed 4GB of RAM from the first slot, now it won't boot at all, even if I just stick one in there.

While the RAM is not listed as supported in the MB manual, the same manufacurer is listed in the manual under a different frequency of RAM. So I just want to make sure that this is an isolated issue with the RAM, or if it is my motherboard.

I plan on replacing the RAM with a compatable one but it will be a few days, so I want to make sure that I have all the correct information.

you get that error with no post if there a bios issue, make sure with one ram stick put the newest bios file on the mb. then see if both sticks work. if the error shows up. use one stick in each slot then switch ram. see if one of the sticks is shorted dead or the cpu.

Thanks for the help so far guys. I went out and got one of the RAM sticks that was on the MB's QVL. Same issue, tried all the slots, fans turn on, keyboard doesn't, and I can't turn off the power without hitting the switch on the PSU.

So at this point it seems like its the board. Are there any other trouble shooting steps that I could try?

I tried a few more trouble shooting things, loosened the screws on the CPU fan, took out the GPU, tried to boot, same issue. Took out the MB Cmos battery for 5 minutes, inserted it again, same issue.

So it seems that this might be all that I could do at this stage.
