Hi guys,

For the past few days I've had an issue where my PC would randomly shut down. It would bluescreen, it wouldn't crash, it would actually say "shutting down" and turn off. Happened a few times, then it started shutting off mid-boot. Get to bios, turns off. Barely loads windows, turns off. At first I thought it was a software issue, but I doubt that a software issue would case boot loops?
Anyway, I've tried to run as many tests as I could. I've unplugged useless USB peripherals, I've unplugged various drives, I've tried booting without a GPU, I changed RAM and PSU, I've cleared CMOS too many times to count. Nothing seems to help. Is it safe to assume that the issue is with the motherboard? Oh, and no overheating, nothing has a chance to go past 35C. Latest BIOS and drivers installed.
Any and all help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Btw, my specs:
CPU: i7-4790k (no OC)
Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 7
RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR3 16GB 2400MHz (brand new)
PSU: Corsair CX750 (also brand new)
Drives: 5, 2 SSD and 3 HDD. Two different Windows 10 copies, one on each SSD.

UPDATE: Getting a new motherboard fixed the issue.

It's a mixture of both. When it manages to load Windows, which barely happens, after a couple of minutes it would say "shutting down". Sometimes it does it before I even log in. Other times, it would just power off mid-boot process. It could get to the MSI logo and shut off, it could shut off during the Windows logo, or even a couple of seconds after I hit the start button.

Very bizarre. I haven't heard of a situation where both happens. Usually, a Windows procedural shutdown could be something software related. But BIOS shut downs you know have to be hardware related.

You said you changed the PSU. What did you change it to? How many days old is the PSU? Just as old as the problem is?

There have been no software changes that I am aware of, other than the GPU drivers, and I've tried rolling those back, still no help.
As for the power supply, the first one is a 4-year-old Corsair TX850, and I've replaced it with a brand new, fresh out of the box Corsair CX750, the next after after the problem first started occurring. It worked fine for about 2 days, maybe less, then starting shutting down again. At that point I've started testing other components and peripherals. Tried different RAM channels and sticks, finally got new RAM, still no results.

After I started doing research on the problem, a ton of results pointed to a potentially faulty power supply, so I decided to see if replacing it would fix the issue. Felt like it did for a couple of days, I got all happy, then the issue came back.

I think I figured it out! I think your case power switch is failing. Unplug your case power switch and use a screw driver to short the power switch pins and turn the PC on.

It makes sense because pushing the power button in Windows does a procedural shutdown, but in the BIOS it's an instant power cut.

It does make a lot of sense. I will try to unplug the case power button and use the power button on the mobo, see if the issue persists. I will report my findings here soon. Thank you for the tip, I have a really good feeling about this one!

Update: the issue came back within a minute :(

I'm having the same issue, and have tried pretty much what you described. At this point I'm sending my board in and get a replacement, as nothing I've tried has solved it. Hope you find a solution. I'll try to update if I do.

I've ended up replacing the motherboard and everything is fine now. Hope you get your PC working soon as well.

I ended up doing the same on Monday when the new one arrived. Now I have a new PSU in a box.
