My external hard drive stopped responding to me. I completely filled the poor guy, but he did't even say goodbye. I can't address the drive at all and my computer doesn't recognize that its there and plugged in. The port the drive occupies on my computer is not responsive unless it put another device in place..

Hi there davekane529,

Is the drive even powering up?
As iXeon suggested, it would be nice to attach the drive with a different cable to another computer.
Another thing you can do is to go to Disk Management and see whether and how is the drive recognized over there. In case it is, but has corrupted file system or partitions, you will need to use some data recovery program.
After that, you can check the drive's health status: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility

Hope this will help,

did you test the drive with another computer? it could be from the usb port or the motherboard . try to check and see if there are any updates for the chipset of the motherboard if so update it and test again.if it's not from the port then check the cable and try with another cable.sometimes it's the age of the motherboard if it's old it could occur that the main board doesn't recognize the big size HDDs.i don't think that the HDD being full would be a problem.
