Hello, last week I purchased 2 identical 1 TB WD HDDs to add to my desktop. One of the hard disks will not initialize as every time I attempt to initialize the drive into the MBR partition style the Disk Management program returns the 'Data Error: Cyclic Redundancy Check' error. The other new drive is working perfectly, as does my current system drive, which also the exact same model. Is the disk somehow physically damaged? How can I fix and initialize the drive so that I can use it?

Hi there cthleung,

Sorry that you are facing some issues with your WD drive. :(

One thing you can try is to just attach the drive with different cables(both SATA & power ones) to another SATA port. In case the issue persists, I believe you can contact the place you got it from or WD's Support and eventually RMA it: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=tKdGbz

It will not hurt to test the drive with WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool(both short and extended tests): http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=JKUz3M

Let me know in case you have some more questions,
