What to buy, PCIEx1 Lan Card or USB 2.0 to Ethernet Adapter?

So my integrated LAN Port got fried due to a power surge when my 220v Regulator's fuse blew.

My motherboard only supports PCIEx1 expansion slots and I don't know if I can maximize my connection/latency w/ USB 2.0 Ethernet Adapter, what should I get?

At this point if you're skeptical about holding onto your PCI-E x1 slot you should jump onboard the USB driven Ethernet adapter. You can source a couple by Linksys or various other brands though another thing you could do is invest in a cheap wireless router and pick up a wireless dongle to pair your system online off wifi.

Might I ask what your current system's specs are inclusive of OS and connected peripherals?
