Hi, I need help choosing between which card for my new build. I will get the i5-6600k and I want to know which graphics card I should get. The GTX 1080 or 1070.
Since there is a price difference, if I get the GTX 1080 I will get a 144hz 1080 monitor. If I get the 1070 however, I can get a 144hz 1440 monitor. I play games like Battlefield 4, GTA V, and BO3. Please help me make the decision.
Thank You.

A GTX 1080 is not overkill if your 1080p monitor supports 120-144Hz refresh rate. In fact, a 1070 would never be able to reach 144FPS in triple-A games even at 1080p. If we were talking only 60Hz monitors then a 1080 would be sufficient for 4K. But since you'll also be overclocking the card (in which case wait for models with aftermarket coolers), then GTX 1080 with a 144Hz 1080p monitor is the way to go.
Get the 1080. The 1070 isn't really a card that can push 144FPS at 1440p in intensive games. The 1080 on the other hand is fully capable of pushing out 144 or even more frames per second at 1080p, especially if you get an aftermarket one and not the Founder's Edition.

But lots of my friends tell me that the 1080 is overkill on a 1080p monitor and that a 1070 would be amazing and smooth (I plan on overclocking it) on a 1440p monitor. Are you sure the 1080 is a better option?

ok here it is i got two 970s which is about = to a 1070 (-vram) and games run around 70fps-90fps a 1080 is about 20-25% faster than a 1070 thus giving about 20-25% more fps so around 85-115fps

So if I get a GTX 1080 and a Benq XL2411z, that's good?
