Hello, I'm having a bit of trouble with this 'all-in-one USB 3.0 (Super Speed) card reader' I got last year for Christmas working with my new MSI Z170A-G45 GAMING Motherboard I installed a few days ago.
My old Motherboard was an MSI P67A-GD53 (B3) which worked perfectly fine with the device.
I was missing an extra USB port on my old motherboard, so I had to install an extra one for my previous motherboard, but I decided to not install it into my new one as it had two USB ports already, which is what I needed as my case was already taking up my only one in my old motherboard.
I have the card reader plugged into my second USB port and the USB 3.1 port on my new motherboard, and it's showing up in my Device Manager just like normal, and the lights on the device are on just like they normally were.
However whenever I plug in a device, I get a continuous alert for a USB device being connected as well as an error message popping up on the bottom-right of my screen that says:
USB Device not recognized
The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.
Recommendation:
Try reconnecting the device. If Windows still does not recognize it, your device may not be working properly.
I've tried unplugging the device from my motherboard and reconnecting it ensuring it's all connected correctly, and I am positive it is, and it was still working perfectly fine before I upgraded to my new motherboard.
I checked in my 'Devices and Printers' section in the Control Panel, and it is listed as 'USB Storage' and right-clicking it and troubleshooting it states that:
USB Mass Storage Device is an older USB device and might not work with USB 3.0
Plug the device into an available USB 2.0 port, and click Next. Otherwise click cancel.
This is leading me to think that perhaps because my new motherboard has a USB 3.1 port instead of 3.0, the device isn't working properly. When I purchase the motherboard, I didn't think much of it being a 3.1 as I thought the 3.0 device would work regardless, but I'm not quite sure.
With what little information I was able to provide, could anyone offer any advice in how I could get this device to work with my new motherboard? The USB 3.0 cable for the card reader fit into my motherboard's 3.1 port perfectly fine. Are there perhaps any drivers available to fix this issue?
If it isn't compatible with my motherboard's internal USB 3.1 port, is there something I could buy that I could connect to a PCI slot similar to my old USB hub I used for my previous motherboard that could add a USB 3.0 connector for my card reader to plug into?
Thanks for reading, I hope someone could offer better insight to the problem I'm currently having. I greatly appreciate it!
