Can my PC handle GTX 980Ti or 1070?

I was wondering since the new pascal GPUs came out and I would really love to have one but I am not sure if my PC cand handle 1070 or 980Ti.

This are my PC specifications:

Motherboard: H97 Killer Fatal1ty

CPU: i5 4440 3.1GHz

PSU: Cooler Master Thunder 500W

Current GPU: G1 Gaming GTX 960 4GB GDDR5

And if it matters RAM: 2x8GB DDR3

I AM HOPING FOR A GOOD ANSWER!!!

won't be a problem. the i5 is a solid cpu and can handle a 1070. it's pretty much the same as a 980ti so you can find cpu reviews using that gpu if you wish to see how it will do. but should not even struggle with it.

out of curiosity what makes this psu bad? is it the 500 watt or the brand?

The low quality components used in it's construction and a weak 12v rail. Running that psu anywhere close to its limits is a recipe for disaster and a 980Ti is going to exceed its limits even the more power efficient 1070 will get it close. If you are going to buy a higher end gpu you need a decent PSU to power it.

really the thing with the psu here is that it has low quality parts meaning it is not great quality overall so the 980 ti or even the 1070 will put strain on it causing it to possibly die which could damage/kill your system

i see, thanks for the answer fellas. i have a corsair cx 750m, am i right in assuming, this is more than capable of handling a 1070?

The Corsair CX(M) lineup of Psu's is about the worst quality that you'll ever want to use in a decent and above quality system. Meaning, it'll work, and you should be ok, but we'd really recommend something better quality. Those Psu's are only recommended for extreme budget builds, where even 10 dollars matters.

Where did it go so wrong for Corsair? They used to be one of the top, trusted makers.
That said: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html Aim at 650Watts from Tier one or two and you'll be fine.
The rest of the system looks OK, though.

Only one point: The display, both the GTX980Ti and GTX1070 will be big time overkill for a 60Hz 1080 monitor, the venerable GTX970/R9 390 would be a better fit for such a display.
If you really want to go Pascal Nvidia, right now I'd opt for the GTX1070, it's a good deal cheaper than the current GTX980Tis out there BUT you should hold off, at least until later in July, let the early adopters pay the early price premiums and allow the AIB partners to release their less expensives ( non Founders Edition) parts before shelling out.

that is very disheartening, i remember corsair being a trusted brand hence why i went with them. thanks for all the help fellas. i think psu will be what i upgrade next. thats a very good shout coozie, i am in no hurry i will let all the "testers" get it first and have their fun.

what reason did they give for not buying a 980ti? other than the fact that the 1070 beats it a bit and is cheaper? was there a different reason?
