Hi guys please help if possible. I have the aspire xc-705, today I've been out three times to try upgrade the basic Intel HD 4600 card with no luck. I initially got the geforce gtx 750 model £110 all singing all dancing. It didn't fit, waaaay to big. Then I got a 'low profile' msi gt 720 which is no where near what I wanted but I thought it'd be an upgrade anyway....I've been told all day graphics cards are universal and all will fit all slots etc....again it didn't. The extension slots are really fiddly and restrictive, there's immovable bars in the way that restrict hardware....these are right in front of the pci slot....there must be cards that fit or else why the slots but I can't find anything. Please I come to you stressed and wanting some help....thanks in advance.

Solution
You were told correctly that both GPUs will fit any PCI-E slot: the problem is with your case, not the expansion slot. Your case wasn't designed with space for a gaming GPU upgrade. There isn't much you can do about this. Buy a new case or hack a card into your current case.
You can probably cram the GT720 in, but I wouldn't recommend it. There is hardly space enough for the cooler to work.
The slots are mostly there for things like WiFi and USB 3 and perhaps very basic GPUs.
