Will the amd fx 6350 bottleneck the gtx 970? I have been having a disagreement with a friend of mine he says the amd fx 8350 won't bottleneck it. I said there's a possiblity that it will, due to the fact that its amd and the amd processors have weaker cores than the opponents, intel. Whats the best answer?

Yeah, but then you have SLI problems; some games don't support it, some don't scale well, and it's not really 2X performance, it is less than that. And by then soomething like an AMD Polaris GPU (which will target your exact market segment) will be out for around $200 and be a much better purchase.

A 6350 would bottleneck a 970. A FX 8350 won't bottleneck but in games that rely on CPU's more will show lesser performance than a basic i5. Like GTA 5, ARMA just to name 2 and more and more games are relying on CPU now.

Going to an Intel i5 would ultimately be your best choice. But if you didn't want to change your board, a 8350 would be your next best option. Keep in mind that the 8350 is 4 years old now.

If a game utilizes only 4 cores, there's no reason in my mind why a 6350 would bottleneck but not an 8350.

It's a better choice than the FX 8350 in my opinion. Some games like BF4 will run better on the AMD (since they utilize more cores), but the I3 in general will have your back more. With that, the CPU has other benefits, meaning a platform with an available upgrade path (unlike an AMD CPU), DDR4 memory, PCIe 3.0 for instance. And it usually can run on a cheaper motherboard and requires less cooling.

I don't like to start flame wars, though. You can get whichever you want. My choice? The I3-6100. I prefer stronger single-core performance. Some others may like the FX 8350. Everyone has the right to their own choice. I think in general the I3 is a little better for gaming, but they are close, and it depends on the exact game.

I'd recommend an I5 if you can get one. Is this a new build or are you upgrading?

This is much better:

Better PSU than the one you originally chose (big rip off). You went too far with the motherboard. And you didn't have enough storage (and Samsung SSDs are better, a lot).

Though note: the motherboard I chose above is mATX and you are getting an ATX case. If you want, change it to an ATX H170 or H110 motherboard even. If you download a lot of games, you'll eventually need to add more storage. Also, depending on how you value looks, buying an EVGS 550 GS or G2 with full modularity will look nicer. Or a Seasonic G Series 550W. Or a Corsair RM550x. Then again, that stuff costs a premium.

The graphics card and the power supply have done been payed for so they cant be changed. I know the motherboard was too far but I went to far so i can do sli instead of switching out later. Although I didnt realize that the power supply was that much of a rip off it is semi modular.
