I'm having to constantly switch between Mac and Windows at school, and I only have one 2TB external drive to work from. Is there a way I can format for both OS's without losing all of my work?

Welcome, ZestyBomb97!

@giantbucket is right, you have these two options that allow you to freely transfer data from either one of the two operating systems (Windows OS and Mac OS X). However, you need to backup your data before reformatting the external HDD in FAT32 or exFAT. The procedure will erase all your current contact on the drive, so be careful. Once you have your files safe and sound, I'd suggest you follow this tutorial on how to convert the external's file system to FAT32.
However, it's also important to get to know the file and partition size limitations that come with the FAT32 file system.

Hope it helps. Keep us posted if you have any questions! :)
Good luck!
