Help: GPU upgrade

Hi guys! I'm new here. I want advice on upgrading my gpu. So here's the one i'm currently using.

http://www.msi-computer.co.jp/VGA/R6950_Twin_Frozr_III_...

I bought my gaming rig (assembled it) in Japan, so just google translate the link if it's in Japanese, because i can't find other sites with the same info.

My gpu still performs well but i can't play new high graphic games (2013 onwards) because they stopped making drivers for this gpu since 2013 and most new games require the later driver versions. Other than that it still works fine considering i've had it for 5 years now.

My priority for upgrading is getting a card that will still be usable for the games in the next 5 years (with available drivers unlike my current gpu), at higher resolution (UHD if possible, or a bit lesser), something that won't overheat (i think i won't need OC, i never used OC) and performs well. My budget is $400 and below or slightly higher.

Here's my motherboard btw: https://www.asus.com/ROG-Republic-Of-Gamers/MAXIMUS_IV_...

And currently i have 750w psu (i think but it might be 850w, i forgot).

And i'm on 2nd gen i7 processor.

I hope you guys can help me. Thanks!

since u said that ur current gpu is running and u dont need to do emergency upgrade, the best advice wud be to wait for a few more days...probably a month...
then when GTX 1070(proposed June 10th release by NVIDIA) is in the market full fledged, go for the kill...
u will be gud to go for the next 5-6 yrs atleast...
its a beast of a card at around $380 usd (42238.90 Japanese Yen)...
u can see and review the details all over the internet...

@hellfire13

Thanks!

Sorry, i accidentally voted down yoour comment haha.

Yes i'm in no hurry. So i guess i'll wait for that. The problem is its availability here in the Philippines (it was 5 years ago when i assembled my rig in japan). Which country will it be initially released?

And another thing, as for compatibility, will it be compatible with my processor and motherboard? My mobo is 5 years old now. I don't have the budget to buy both gpu and mobo upgrade this year.

Will my psu be enough too? (750-850w)

I almost forgot. I don't have any cooling system like those liquid cooling stuff in my cpu. All i have are 3-4 fans. I've now read about gtx 1070, as far as i've read there was no mention if it performs cool and quiet. I don't have room airconditioning too so it would be a real plus if i get a cool and quiet card without a minus in performance.

it is gud enuf to run on its embedded cooling system, and yes u can run it on ur mobo...asus maximus is well capable of running it...
but u need to have a solid power supply...if ur current one features in this list, then its gud enuf...

about the down vote, dont worry...votes are not important...resolving issues are :)
maybe the moderators will be able to reverse that...
gudluck mate...

So it's safe to assume then that my processor and ram is enough, i see. I can't recall the brand but all i know is i have about 750-850w psu and the fact that it never failed me this past 5 years. Still, do you recommend a psu upgrade? Higher watts?

I just hope gtx 1070 becomes available here in the Philippines soon, so i could check out its price. Thanks again brother, looking forward to your assistance from now on! :D

ur processor shd be gud enuf...but u never mentioned ur ram initially...with gtx 1070, its better u have 16gb of ram or 8gb atleast to get its full potential...
as for the psu...ur wattage is fine...its just the quality u need to check...and the fact that it is alrdy 5 yrs old and unbranded, u might nvr knw wat kind of risk it can posses with a new piece of hardware...

u r welcome :)

I think my psu is branded. I'm just not sure what brand, i asked ny sister to take pictures of its box and send to me. I currently have 8g ram but i'm also considering going for 16g.

Would you advice to wait for the other manufacturers' gtx1070? According to the gtx1070 i read, thosevare often 10-20% faster than the initially released gpu.

"Cums out" lol thanks again :D

On second thought, since there aren't any good and relatively cheap 4k monitors yet, i'm also considering getting a gpu that is:

Best for 1080p
Driver support for at least the next 2-3 years
Fast but power efficient
Something in the $200 range

What would you recommend?

well...in ur first post u mentioned ur budget is around $400...thats why i recommended to wait for gtx 1070...
if u want to get something cheaper, then also there are options coming out... gtx 1060 and 1050...
but that will be sometime later during this year...
any of todays decent cards in that range will sustain ur requirements for the next couple of years easily...

If your budget is $400, the only thing you need to do is take a few weeks to decide which 1070 you want when it arrives on the store shelves. By the end of this month, there will be a huge hole in the pricing between the vendors. NV has a $380 card and a $600+ card. AMD has a $200 card that meets or beats any other card on the market, regardless of product line or vendor, until you get to that $380 1070, so it's a big gap.

I see. Thanks for the feedback. I'm also have my eyes om gtx950-980 since some of them are cheaper.

As for gtx1070, asus already released their own version of it, the asus strix gtx1070 i think. Is it any better than the original gtx1070? This confuses me because sometimes there's also mdi, zotac, etc versions of one card. what's the difference?

if u pit them side by side...usually theres not much difference that is observed, except minor changes in thermal design and base/boost clocks...but when it all transpires to performance, there is hardly much difference...that is if u consider the base model...
there are ofcourse over-clocked and super-clocked versions which have considerable difference as being oc not required...thy usually cum pre overclocked out of the box...
