Overclock CPU no fps gains-Help

Hi, I recently OC my FX 6300 to 4ghz.

I raised multiplier to 20x, set vcore to 1.2435 and disable all power saving features except core c6.
Ran prime95 for 9hs with no errors and 36°C as max temp on cpu, but because I leave LLC on auto (I’m scared of voltage spikes) vcore drops to 1.212v.

Then I played The Witcher 3 and I saw approximately the same fps that without OC, 38-45 fps on cities (novigrad) and 50-56 fps outside.

What am I doing wrong? Should I disable core c6? Set LLC to normal or medium?
I’ll appreciate your help.

Specs:
FX-6300
Hyper 212 Plus Cooler
Mobo: GA-970A-UD3P
RAM: 8GB
GPU: EVGA SSC 960 2GB
PSU; don’t remember brand but it is 80 Plus (Standard), 37.5 amps on 12v rail.

I asked why you turned off turbo mode when you're not overclocked. Not while you are.

Yes, you are going to run into issues with that power supply as you are already near full capacity.

It's not just about getting max frames when overclocking. If the CPU is overclocked and can handle physics better, those drops you get in high-end games will be minimized. Minimum frames go up a lot when overclocking an FX CPU. Look at gaming benchmarks on YouTube for proof.

That's not an overclock. The 6300 can boost itself to 4.1 if environmental conditions are o.k.

4.5Ghz + and you will start seeing big gains.

Unfortunately your 450 watt PSU isn't sufficient to push an FX chip. I don't recommend overclocking anything until you get a decent unit.

Thanks for your reply.
Well maybe it's not actually an overclock as you said, but as far as I know this chip only achieve 4.1ghz with turbo mode on and in that case only two cores reach that frecuency.
I always set turbo mode off, OCing or not, so that's why I think there should be an improvement in fps after multiplier and vcore were raised.

No. Turbo mode engages all on cores. Why would you set it to off if you were not overclocking? Just trying to understand your logic.

And no, there will not be a noticeable improvement until 4.5Ghz. It also depends on how you overclock. Overlclocking your CPU nortbridge instead of just raising multiplier will increase L2 Cache performance and in turn increase single core performance.

Use a medium LLC with a gigabyte Mobo.

Like I said before though, you have a very low wattage power supply for an FX build. If you decide to do heavy overclock you will run into issues. Potential fire hazard.

Almost every OC guide I've read says to turn off turbo mode.
I know my psu it's not best for ocing, but I calculated my wattage consumption with extreme outervision and it is barely close to 400W at 1.35 vcore.
I'll read more on this topic, thank you for your advice.

Over clocking a CPU doesn't always increase fps and if it does its usually minimal. It can make a big difference if your CPU is bottlenecking your GPU but the 6300 is a very decent CPU.
