I'll be building my first computer soon and there's one thing I don't understand. How much ram do I need? I was thinking about getting 16gb of ram but only using 1 or 2 ram slots and keeping 3 or 6 open. The real question is future-proofing like this a good idea and how much RAM do you think we will need in the up in coming future? Thank You

Also I'll be using my computer for running a lot of games and video editing work if you were wondering.

If everyone is honest there is currently no benefit game wise for anything over 8GB. But ram is cheap, and buying 16GB keeps you from worrying about it in the future.

When thinking about other things such as video editing, fast drives tend to be more important. If you are working on files over 8GB.. then sure go for 16.
