Hi all,

In preparation for the release of the 1070 I've chosen to put together a new build.
So far I have decided on the following components;

Case: Corsair Carbide 400C
CPU Cooler: Be quiet! Dark Rock 3
PSU: Corsair AX760
CPU: Intel i5 6600k
MoBo: Asus Maximus VIII Ranger
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200MHz
Case Fans: Arctic F12 PWM 120mm

I plan to overclock the 6600k and at a further point in time buy another 1070 for SLI.

I'm stuck on choice for SSD, from what I've read SATA 3 is limited to a speed of 600GB/s due to its bandwidth, PCIe on the other hand offers speeds of up to 3 times that on paper for a much less economically efficient price tag. How does this value correspond to real in-game load times? I can't find a video explicitly explaining this relationship.

Also, according to the specs on Corsairs website for the 400C the CPU cooler allowance is 170mm, Be quiet!'s website states the height of the cooler to be 160mm, is 10mm a realistic error margin to have?

I'd appreciate if anyone could answer my questions or provide alternative components.

Thanks,
Brandon.

There are PCIE SDDs that go over the SATA limit, but the advantage in real world applications is marginal at best, and definitely not worth the extra money(they cost about twice). The idea is to get the largest capacity sata drive you can afford, preferably the 850 EVO from samsung as it hits all the right marks. Btw, if you can afford to go for a 500 gb drive instead of teh 250 i put in the build, do.

the components will fit just fine, cooler included.

I've changed you MB as what you had was overpriced and useless. this has everything you need.

That PSU is tselected so you have room to go for SLI.

As of today, the 1070 will be an excellent choice.

If you are also getting a monitor, don;t buy one without G-sync as that's a must. Pick from here according to your other parameters: http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/monitor/#A=1&sort=a8&page=1

That would be 6Gb/s. Divide that by 8, then account for the overhead and it'll max out at about 550-600MB/s. SSDs have been limited by the SATA interface for quite some time.
PCIE models in teh consumer range do upto 2500MB/s and that going up and up.

I live in England where the prices are different to here, I'm paying £30 more for the Ranger, and that includes a free copy of DOOM which I was planning to get anyway. Would you still recommend the Z170a over the Ranger? The RAM chosen was also on sale at £75, would that change your choice?

Ah, cool go for the ranger if you get that deal. It's an excellent board, no doubt. Not necesarily needed, that's all i was saying.
I forgot to tell ou about the ram: there is no point in getting anythign above 2400Mhz unless you gam on integrated graphics. [strike]So i would much rather get what i put in the uk build for 10 more, if you know what i mean ;)[/strike] Wasn't paying atention. Yea, no point in paying more than ~50.
