I just got ARK: Survival Evolved. For about 3 weeks I had been playing ARK: Survival of the fittest at 60FPS on low settings, with textures on medium.
I just got Survival evolved and on any setting I play it on my pc can barely squeeze 10FPS, and I have seen others do much better.
I have also noticed the game never uses more than 30% of my GPU (Maybe the problem, maybe a fix?)
Please help
Specs below.

i5 750 @ 3.2GHz (About at 60-90% usage at all times)
8GB RAM (Uses about 5-7)
EVGA FTW GTX 750ti
1600x900 monitor
Windows 7 home

How would it bottleneck? I have never had that problem before and it seems that the CPU is doing its fare share. CPU is not at 95-100% at all times so its not a bottleneck. Survival of the fittest uses the same amount of CPU and runs just fine. It seems to be my video card thats having the problem.

overclock your gpu and see if that helps but with ark slow cpus are often what holds it back.

Once again, my CPU is not near 100% so i know its not bottle necking. Its also an i5 4 core, not a core 2 duo
If you did not read my specs you would know i have a FTW edition and GPU boost pretty much takes it to its highest stable frequency with the FTW edition.

It don't seem like a hardware problem, but more of a software one.

their are many core 2s more powerful than a first gen i5. and look at each individual core on the cpu if any one of them is above 80% their is a VERY good chance its a cpu bottleneck and the gpu boost wont get nearly close to the max overclock of that card. make sure you start the game on low memory settings. if you would like some comparison here is a rig i build for my freind that runs ark on med to high settings at a constant 30-40 fps

xeon x5677
750ti i overclocked myself
12 gigs ram
1600*900 monitor
win 7 pro

Your CPU could be at 25% and be a bottleneck if you run only one thread.
And from where I'm sitting this game does only use one thread to a very high degree, maybe it uses more if you raise GFX settings to help with the rendering, but the core game=max fps comes from one core.
Then again GFX in this game are very very unoptimized so if you have high settings/resolution the 750ti would only produce ~10FPS.

So your telling me the core 2 duo can outperform my 4 core i5? Just look at benchmarks. They will do the talking for me, let alone me doing the testing myself.
I always have it on low settings (as said above) and my GPU is going WAY above the GPU boost limit Nvidia put on the card, so i know there is no bottleneck.

Anyways i found out i was running a VERY old version of the game and it needed updated. Now it runs fairly well on low-medium settings.

Your computer knowledge is about to make me cry, buddy.

here are some benchmarks for you

and the list goes on and on. you could also get just as much if not more of a oc on these as your cpu. the only differance between your system and mine is a better cpu and a heavily overclocked gpu.

as for the older version last time I checked ark will not let you on a official server without updating and survival of the fittest is a official server. the only reason I suggested overclocking your gpu is so you can see that is not the issue because you are too thick-skulled to believe that a mediocre first gen i5 over 7 years old could possibly be bottlenecking an extremely cpu heavy game like ark. even when another user tried to explain that you refused to listen. However, lucky for you you know everything about this topic this game and all computers ever so I should be asking you how to get my pc to run this game at a playable frame rate.

I enjoy helping people on this forum however I do this for free in my own time and do not appreciate people who ask a question and then refuse any answer from multiple educated users. you are free to express your opinion on a topic and disagree with whomever you like but please try to be more polite to the people who are trying to help you.

No worrys man, as I said I updated the game and it plays on medium settings at 30-50FPS.
As for those CPUS you should of been more specific. I was thinking core 2 duo, not core 2 quad. Anyways the performance advantage compared to my i5 is almost nothing, so its not worth comparing them.
I was thinking of getting a core 2 quad when I built this PC because I loved my core 2 duo laptop but I could never get my hands on one.

Until my CPU gets 95-100% when playing games at all times or games just become unplayable due to a slow computer then ill upgrade. For now, everything and all of my games still play well and at decent graphics settings.

Im also wondering if you have ever even seen a core 2 extreme in your life. Last i checked those still cost a lot and are hard (er) to find.
