Hi everyone,

I am facing a very peculiar problem. I tried updating the bios on my MSI x99A SLI PLUS motherboard. I had been using the pc all morning without any issues. The live update pointed there were updates so to make sure my pc was running at its best I decided to update. Put the bios file that I extracted onto a formatted usb. The bios update was detected and the PC shut down then it powered back on. Then it shut down and powered up again. After 20 odd mins of the power on power off cycle I turned off the power to the psu and tried to start it up after a gap of half an hour and it went into the same start stop loop. The bios slider wouldnt help either.I cleared the cmos using the button first and then by shorting the pins(yes power was disconnected).Called MSI and they just said RMA.

My processor is a Xeon e5-1650v3

I needed the computer for a school project so bought a gigabyte x99 ud4 and shifted the components over and after I push the power button its the loop of life and death. Tried using just 1 ram module and GPU(quadro k5200) still no dice. Cleared cmos by shorting the pins (power cable was dosconnected)and the still nothing. Just start and then stop.

Even removed the battery for over an hour on both boards to clear CMOS. Even that didn't help.

Tried to start without HDD connected and all usbs unplugged. Nothing breaks the start stop loop.

Other components:
Psu- Corsair Rm1000i
Ram-gskill 2133 MHz(4x4)

Any advice?

Thanks

1| It's quite possible your build is not happy with your load out. Have you made sure your system is suffering from a grounding issue either inside the chassis or the wall outlet or the entire house for that matter?
2| Can you please pass on your full system's specs inclusive of your chassis?
3| If you can get into BIOS for your Gigabyte board, can you verify which version of BIOS you have? It is also stated that the board can have it's BIOS updated without the needing to go into OS/desktop = Qflash.
4| You may want to see if breadboarding the components allows you to recover from the cycle of life and death...?
