My GTX 670 died and im looking for a new graphics card. I was thinking in getting the new GTX 1070 but i worry that my I5 is a little outdated. Am i safe in buying the GTX 1070 or should i upgrade my MB and CPU?

What would be your recommendations for the MB and CPU. I don't need a monster PC but i want a decent gaming rig

My main specs are:
MB - Asus p8p67 -m
CPU - I5 2500K (Stock 3.3GhZ)
Ram - Corsair Vengeance 4x4 (8Gb) 1600Mhz
PSU - Corsair GS600

Solution
Personally, I would just overclock the 2500K and use it with the GTX 1070. It may be down a few FPS compared to a newer i5, but you should still get good frame rates. Otherwise, you can pick up something like an i5 6500/B150 mobo/DDR4 and not spend a lot. A motherboard change might also require a new Windows license if you don't have a retail version.

CPU: Intel Core i5-6500 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($194.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: MSI B150M Pro-VD Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($61.99 @ NCIX US)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($28.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $285.97

That is not as expensive as i thought it might be. Either way i might just overclock my I5, Just need to buy a new cooler. What would be a good cooler to get? I've had my eyes on the EVO 212 for a while

The 2500k is a most capable proc. As a gamer with a budget I recently got a used 2500(non-k) for a song and paired it with a modest cooler. 3.9ghz on 4 cores on my p67 board with the (locked) sku. The key is the better cooling. Your unlocked one should be much faster.
Think of it this way. If you can go from a stock 3.3 to 4.4ghz; that represents a 33% performance gain. That's huge in my opinion and would probably be quicker than any Skylake i5(non-k). But if you had your heart set on something like DDR4 memory then you'll have to shell out.

How big is the H7 compared to a stock intel cooler? The stock cooler is almost touching my ram.

Yes, i saw their video of them fitting the cooler or a small MB and a vengeance stick. I'm one of those guys who always has bad experiences when buying new things, they arrive broken or for some reason don't work and stuff. I'm going to print their compatibility test and see if im safe to use it.

Also I have no idea what Thermal paste is good. Never applied thermal paste other then when i was studying and i didn't care if it was good or not, they just told me apply it and i did. Is there any brand i should avoid?
