Audio recording computer bottlenecks at CPU. Currently AMD Phenom 9850be 2.5 Ghz on ASUS M2A-VM. Bought an AMD Phenom ii X4 940 3.0 Ghz. Also got the recommended CPU cooler "Master Hyper 212 Evo". All reading online says that it can be installed and overclocked slightly. If I can rev it up to 3.5 that should be a noticeable improvement. The music project is almost done and I need to use lot's of plugins. AMD overdrive won't work on DDR2. Current BIOS revision 2302. How do I get there from here? Nothing is installed yet.

The P2x4 940 is not on the Official Support List.
edit: looking closer at the supported processors, it appears you have a 95w max on which CPU you can use.
