Hello,

As the title states, this will be my first time building a gaming pc. I plan on using it just for League of Legends. My budget is $500. I went through and checked my build with pcpartpicker and it says everything is compatible. I was hoping to get some feedback on this build and maybe find some suggestions on where I could upgrade or replace. I'm fine with spending a little extra if it improves performance. I do not plan on overclocking. I plan on building this sometime within the next week or two.

Here is a link to my build on pcpartpicker: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/TRGYcc

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor - $95
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler - $25
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard - $55
RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory - $27
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive - $48
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 960 2GB SuperSC ACX 2.0+ Video Card - $164
Case: Deepcool TESSERACT SW ATX Mid Tower Case - $39
Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply - $28

Total: $481

Thank you for reading my post :)

This build performs much better than that one. The fx series are dead now, no purpose of buying them. Also the i3 outperforms the fx 6300 in most games as of single threaded apps. Take less stronger cores over more weaker cores.

don't even consider amd nowadays.

- outclasses amd in multitasking and any game.
- has got a good upgrade part
- a ssd add later a hdd with ease(already enough for 4 triple a games and a lot of other games and windows , keeps ur pc fresh and snappy)
- power supply is not overkill its the most important part in your pc. a badd power supply will decrease the lifespan of other components despite it is working.

Solution

the xt is a very poor poweruspply made by some chinese company !!

Better gaming performance and upgrade path.

i have nearly that excact same type of build, i have a amd fx 6350 which still has six cores but is a little better and i have a 960. i get 50-60 fps on gta v and 150-300 fps on league of legends so i wouldn't worry about your build. it will run fine on most games.

can it be improved yes:
firstly, although i said the cpu is good it is getting outdated and is becoming old. so a newer quad i5 could do better than that. but for the time being your cpu is fine.

also if you are not putting a shit load of things on your hard drive then maybe swap that for a ssd cause that will speed the build up in general.

thats all i can recommended for the price your going to pay. in fact, your ram is better than mine so expect better performance and the gtx 960 is a good card for the money. the cooler will keep the cpu cool much better than the shitty stock cooler. all in all decent build for $500

my game fps
battlefield 4 (ultra 1920x1080) 60-70 fps
lol (ultra) 150-300 fps
gta v (normal) 50-60 fps
minecraft (high) 60+

hope this helps

Thank you all your responses! Based on what everyone's said I've decided to swap out the fx-6300 for the i3 and change the motherboard as well.

Some questions:

1. Will I need a CPU cooler? I'm still interested in the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($24.89 @ OutletPC). But if it won't help with performance then I would just skip on it.

2. Will there be a noticeable difference if I decide to go with the Geforce 960 over the Geforce 950? There's just such a huge price gap between the 2 and if it really isn't that much of a noticeable difference, is it ok to go with the 950?

Here's my updated build. I know that if I swap the 950 in for the 960 I'd save like $60. But I'm willing to stick with the 960 if it's worth keeping.

personally i think to stick with the gtx 960. although you save money you do lack in some games and it will become outdated with more, new graphical games.

A GTX 950 is a crippled GTX 960. When overclocked, it can come very close to the 960's performance. The NEX PSU you have above is way more than you need for even the GTX 960. The Antec VP450 I linked above is more than sufficient and much cheaper.
